I have Termites
Termites aren’t the ideal house guests at least, as it pertains to wood and other structures in our homes. An average termite colony can eat through roughly 1 foot of a 2×4 in just 6 months. Some species are even faster! These little workers are busy working 24/7, leading you to ask yourself do they ever take a break? Sadly, termite infestations are rarely discovered until their harm has been done, which can take between a year and even up to eight years.
It goes without saying: having termites in your home can significantly impact its structural integrity, as well as its value. Can you imagine buying a beautiful home for $2 million and then discovering you could only sell it for $1 million dollars due to termite damage? That would truly be a heart breaker!
This is why it’s extremely important to catch these little critters very early! The sooner you check for any sign of termites, the more likely you are to spot, treat and kick them off your property.
Here are some signs to look out for:
Hollowed wood that still has its outer shell intact
Mud tubes or packing around brickwork or in subfloor areas
Flight tubes from winged termites, called alates
Flight cuts on trees
Swarms of alates flying around, usually in November and December
Signs of termite castes in trees or their work
Mysterious noises
Mounds or nests in trees
You don’t have to see termites to act! By the time you see them, your home may have already been damaged. So why not contact us? We’d love to discuss the best termite inspection for you and give you a written report and recommendations on what we find. Let us keep your house in tip-top shape!
