Here are some signs to look out for:

• Hollowed wood that still has its outer shell intact

• Mud tubes or packing around brickwork or in subfloor areas

• Flight tubes from winged termites, called alates

• Flight cuts on trees

• Swarms of alates flying around, usually in November and December

• Signs of termite castes in trees or their work

• Mysterious noises

• Mounds or nests in trees
